Abby's Project:
Make care packages for parents of children in the Intensive Care Unit of Children's Hospital. Work with Life Skills students. Work during school: study halls
Adaptive Baseball Volunteer:
Be a buddy for a special needs child at The Miracle Field in Murrysville (Spring dates). Registration info will be provided by the Nurse.
Babysitting for PTO meetings:
help parents attend their monthly PTO meetings so they can be involved in their child's school. Available at Harrison Park, Level Green, McCullough, Sunrise and Trafford. Meet Once a month. Please Attend 2.
Tuesdays: Sunrise, McCullough, Trafford - 6:45- 8:30PM
Wednesdays: Level Green- 6:45- 8:00PM
Day of the week varies: Harrison Park- 6:15- 8:00PM
Buddy Program:
High School students participate in a pen-pal program that focuses on making good decisions and be coming involved in your community. Each student writes 2 letters. High School CAP members and their buddies meet at the high school in April for a puppet show and refreshments. Great way to help mentor our younger students.
Crafty Shack and PT Schools Committee:
Assist the Craft Shack in after school projects in elementary schools.
Fall Clothing Give Away Set-Up:
Location: Community United Methodist Church
5K Race:
Sponsored by the Penn Township Business Association. Help with various duties such as working water stands, guides, ect. Can be a family project.
Food Drive (Spring):
in addition to bringing in 5 cans for the food drive, CAP members may assist by participating in the following:
Elementary Food Drive (one day after school in February/March. Students brings food collected from elementary schools to the high school. Need access to a car or parent to drive.
Fresh Express:
Assist in distributing fresh food and produce to area needy families. You must be mature and responsible at this event.
Location: Jeannette.
Golden Heights Nursing Home on Route 130:
Assist the activities director with on-going monthly projects (crafts, bowling, Battle of the Generations and much, much more). A fashion show will be organized as well.
Harrison Park Elementary School Projects:
Fall Festival, FundRaiser Pick-Up, Make A Wish Program, Science Fair, Family Fun Nights, Fun Day Set-Up and Clean-Up.
Halloween Parade:
Help with the Penn Township Business Association's Annual Fall Costume Parade.
Heartland Hospice:
Assist this local hospice agency in Penn Township with clerical and computer work in their office. Days and hours determined based on your schedule. Must be 16 and attend orientation.
Homeroom Representative:
CAP members will be appointed to assist in organizing the food drive for their 1st period classes. Representatives will also distribute the CAP newsletter to members in their first period class. CANNOT sign up for this project. Will be appointed. However, if you are interested, you should see the nurse.
Irwin Food Pantry:
Assist with organizing and distributing food to needy individuals in the Irwin Area.
Jeannette Food Pantry:
Pack food at the Jeannette Salvation Army and then deliver it to needy residents in the Jeannette High Rise Apartments.
Kentucky Project:
Pack food once a month for impoverished families in Kentucky. Held in conjunction with St. Barbara Church in Harrison City. Please attend 2.
Level Green Elementary School:
Help the PTO with various special events. Sign up and you will be contacted when more information is available.
Light Up Night (Holiday Light Celebration):
Help the Penn Township Business Association with their annual light up festivities.
Manor Public Library:
Help with two of their events for children. Craft Days and Basket Bash.
McCullough Elementary PTO Activities:
Assit the McCullough PTO with various activities such as open house, fundraiser pickups, the science fair and the art expo.
Norwin Elks:
Assist the Norwin ELKS with various indoor and outdoor projects.
Penn Area Library:
Assit our local library organize their book sales. Involves a short commitment after school.
Penn Pals Fall Festival:
Help this local day care with their Fall Festival. Work games, booths, ect.
Penn Township Community Days:
Work with the Penn Township Business Association and their annual Fall Festival.
Penn-Township Police Department Stuff-A-Truck: help organize the toys that are collected by the police officers and distribute for Backpack Program and local churches.
Pet Friends:
Great for animal lovers! Attend Pet Friends in their Saturday adopt-a-pet days. Held the 1st and 3rd Saturdays at Carwen Boarding Kennels by Norwin High School. Two shifts available. Limit 2 per student.
Second Sunday Supper:
Volunteer in the meal preparation and service for needy and homeless individuals in the Greensburg area. Held the 2nd Sunday of every month at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. Must be mature and responsible! Provide own transportation. Very rewarding. Can be a family project.
Special Olympics:
Be a big buddy for challenged individuals and help them in their Olympic event. Very rewarding. Two opportunities:
1.) Bowling
2.) Track and Field @ Norwin
Sunrise Elementary PTO Activities:
Assist in various activities sponsored by the PTO.
Table Set-Up for Harrison City Woman's Club:
Easy but much appreciated job for those with a little muscle. All that is required to set-up tables forth is organization's monthly meetings. Held in the Penn Township Library. Please work 2 dates.
Theatre Factory in Trafford:
Many jobs to choose from:
- making and painting sets
- ushering
- assistant stage manager
- spot-light operator
- runner
This 'n That Sale:
Help organize the sale.
Location: Community United Methodist Church
Toys for Tots:
Pack toys for area needy children. Takes place in one week of December. Need only to attend only 1 evening, but can attend more.This can be a family project.
Tutoring:
Three opportunities are available to tutor our younger students. Tutoring is available at both Harrison Park Elementary and Sunrise Elementary. Days will depend on your schedule but need to be consistent in your attendance. Can go every week, every other week, ect.
Also, besides the elementary schools, there is Middle School Math Tutoring available at Penn Middle School. Available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You can choose the day of the week. Can go every week, every other week, ect.
Ushering for the PTHS Drama Guild:
Help usher or be a runner for the fall play or the spring musical.
Veterans Project:
Be part of a committee that organizes a collection for the Veterans at the Oakland VA Hospital.
You've Got A Friend Day for Special Children:
This is a during the school day activity.
Wednesday, October 4th at Twin Lakes Park. Students selected to attend will be assigned to a special child, and their job will be to accompany them throughout the park and assist them in the various activities planned for the day. Program plans include hay rides, fishing, boating, pony rides, amusement rides, music, a bird show and the Pirate Parrot! Transportation to and from school will be provided. You will need to bring a bagged lunch. We will provide water. This is a highly popular event and we need responsible students will to work with special kids! We can take a nice number of students on one bus. Preference will be given to Seniors and Juniors.You will be notified if you are selected to attend.
